“Start with a beautiful ring on a great band, and think about the wedding bands that go with it.” Trax, at the counter on 47th Street

More than half the rings sold were one design, a 2 carat F VS lab-grown radiant with diamond shoulders.
Radiant cut engagement rings from our counter on 47th Street. A radiant is a square or rectangle with its corners cut off, faceted like a brilliant, so it sparkles like a round and keeps straight sides. Most centers are lab-grown diamonds, most of them 2 to 4 carats in F color, with bigger stones up to 9 carats and natural centers among the rest. Most rings are 14K gold, some 18K.

Buyer's guide
How to choose a radiant cut engagement ring
Pick the radiant's carat and grades first, then grown or mined, then the band
Start with the center stone, because a radiant engagement ring is bought for its diamond. Two carats is where most buyers settled. Take it lab-grown in F color, as nearly everyone did, unless she wants a mined stone. Then decide how much diamond the band should carry, from a plain solitaire to pavé. Choose 14K, which stands up to daily wear, and borrow a ring of hers to learn her size.

Questions we get at the counter
What carat radiant cut engagement ring should I buy?
Start at two carats, the size most rings sold carried. Go to three or four carats if she wants the stone to lead her hand. The biggest center here is a nine carat lab-grown radiant.
Radiant or emerald cut for an engagement ring?
Radiant, if she wants sparkle. The radiant's brilliant facets scatter light and hide small marks, while the emerald cut's long steps give calm flashes and show the inside of the stone. Compare our emerald cut engagement rings.
Are your radiant cut diamond rings lab-grown or natural?
Nearly always lab-grown, with twelve of the fourteen centers grown and almost every ring sold grown too. Two centers are natural, a K VS2 stone in 18K and a fancy yellow set in platinum and 18K.
More questions we get
Which setting holds a radiant cut diamond best?
Prongs at the four corners hold it best, and every radiant ring here sets its center on prongs or claws. A hidden halo under the stone adds light from the side, and a pavé band adds sparkle. Have the tips checked yearly.
What color and clarity should a radiant diamond be?
F color and VS clarity or better, the grades nearly every buyer took. A radiant hides a small inclusion better than an emerald cut, but its corners can hold a tint, so stay colorless in white gold. Ask us for the stone's measurements too.
14K or 18K gold for a radiant engagement ring?
14K for a ring worn every day, since the harder gold holds its shape, and nearly nine in ten rings sold used it. Four rings come in 18K for a warmer yellow. Most offer yellow, white or rose, so match the gold she wears.
How do I learn her ring size while keeping the ring a surprise?
Slip a ring off her ring finger and measure it with the size guide on our women's engagement rings page, or ask her closest friend. Most rings here come in half sizes 5 through 8. A resized or made-to-order ring is final sale.
Can I return a radiant engagement ring?
Yes, inside fourteen calendar days of arriving, never worn or altered. Text or call 212-872-9692 for clearance and our insured label. The refund is net of that label and five percent restocking. Resized or made-to-order rings are final, so ask which yours is.
