How big: small silver pendants for women, from a dainty charm to a bold piece

Read the height on the listing first. A piece about an inch tall sits close at the collarbone and suits every day, and fourteen here are that small or close to it. The middle piece stands just under an inch and a half, while thirteen reach two inches or more. Nearly all are listed for men too, so trust the inches over the page name.

Crosses and faith: silver cross pendants, Jesus, angel, hamsa and chai

A cross gives you the most choice, and most of them carry a colored stone. The black diamond cross set, just over an inch on a fine cable chain, went out more than any other cross in the year. The Sanctity and Aqua Aura crosses stand two and a half inches, a bold look. Jesus pieces, a praying angel, a chai and an evil-eye hamsa round out the faith pieces, and the women's cross pendants hold more.

A little over half come with a chain. Look for set or chain in the title, or a length menu on the listing. The opal claw, the baby elephant, the horseshoe, the heart photo pendant and the gator include one though their titles never say set, while the tiger's eye claw is the pendant alone.

More than half of the chained pieces offer every length from 18 up to 24 inches. Choose 18 to sit at the collarbone and longer to sit lower. A pendant on its own needs a chain that slips through its bail, so tell the live chat your chain's width, or browse the women's silver necklaces.

Care and returns: does .925 silver tarnish, and can a silver pendant come back
