What is a Franco chain, and how is it different from a box chain?
A Franco is a woven chain of V-shaped links folded into each other from four sides, so it wears as a dense square rod that lies flat. A box chain is a string of single square links, open where the Franco is dense.
Solid or hollow Franco chain: which should I buy?
Buy solid if a pendant will hang from it or it never comes off your neck. Hollow gives you the same width for less gold, but it can dent. At one width, a solid Franco here carries two to three times the gold.
How thick should a men's Franco chain be?
Two to 3 mm is the everyday Franco. Go under 2 mm to carry a light pendant or to layer. Wear 4 mm or more on its own. Most men here bought a Franco under 3 mm.
