How to choose a pre-owned Rolex Day-Date, the President
Pick 36 or 40, yellow gold or Everose, factory or aftermarket diamonds, then the papers
Choose the size before the dial. Take the 36 unless your wrist is broad, because it is the size bought most here, and it looks right with a suit or a T-shirt. Save the 40 for a big wrist. Expect an older one to come as the watch alone, since its papers rarely survive the years. Every watch is final sale, so settle your questions with the watch desk first.

Is the Rolex President the same watch as the Day-Date?
Usually, yes. President is the name of the Day-Date's bracelet, and many people call the whole watch by it. A Datejust can wear a President bracelet too, so read the model in the title before you choose.
Should I buy a Day-Date 36 or 40?
Buy the 36 for a wrist up to about 7 inches around and the 40 for a bigger wrist. Most buyers here took the 36. Measure with a strip of paper, and send the desk the length on the live chat if you sit between the two.
Are the diamonds on a Day-Date factory or aftermarket?
It depends on the watch. Rolex's own diamond bezel changes the reference, so the 228348RBR is the diamond version of the fluted 228238. Where we know of aftermarket work, the description names it. If a diamond dial's listing is silent, ask the desk.

What is the difference between the 18038 and the 18238?
Mostly the movement. The 18238 is the later one, and its crown sets the day quickly as well as the date. Both are 36 mm yellow gold under sapphire and look nearly alike, so choose by the dial and the condition.
Does a pre-owned Day-Date come with box and papers?
Rarely, when the watch is older. Rolex has issued a plastic card only since the 2000s, and the paper certificates before it were often lost. Each description says near its end what comes with that watch, and you can add a box.
What is the Rolex Day-Date II?
It is the 41 mm Day-Date that Rolex made before the current 40, with broader lugs that make it wear larger. Its references start with 218, such as the 218238 in yellow gold. Ask about it if a 40 feels small on you.
Can you find a white gold or platinum Day-Date?
Yes, through the trade. Tell the watch desk the metal and the dial you have in mind, and it will come back with what the trade can offer. The wait depends on the watch you want.
Can I return a Day-Date?
