Heart necklaces and heart pendants for women, most in 14K gold, with some 18K and 10K: diamond hearts, hearts of ruby, sapphire, topaz, citrine or garnet, and photo hearts that carry a picture. Many carry diamonds, and most come on their own chain, at 16 to 24 inches.

How to choose a heart necklace

Diamond, gemstone or photo, then the chain, lab or natural, gold or silver, and an engraving

Nearly every heart necklace here holds diamonds, a colored stone or a photo. Diamond hearts are 36 of the 70 and took most of what people bought in the year, led by an 18K heart of baguette diamonds. Most hearts here come on their own chain, but 27 are the pendant alone, so plan one. For every day, take 14K gold at 18 inches.

Kinds: diamond heart necklace, gemstone heart or photo heart

Choose what fills the heart: diamonds, a colored stone or a photo. Diamond hearts are 36 of the 70 here, and they took 47 of the 75 pieces bought in the year. An 18K heart of baguette diamonds led with 13, and a 14K heart set with 0.80 ct came next with 7. The middle diamond heart stands an inch tall and lists 4.9 grams, its chain included where one comes.

The 21 gemstone hearts hold ruby, sapphire in red, pink or blue, topaz, citrine, garnet, morganite, aquamarine or rhodolite. They run smaller, about half an inch tall in the middle, and 20 of the 21 come on a chain. They took 25 of the pieces bought, the ruby heart first with 5. Eight photo hearts carry a picture, and five plain gold hearts, broken hearts and a key to my heart set among them, carry no stone. Chain: which chain for a heart pendant, and does it come with one

Read the title and the menu first. Of the 70 hearts, 43 hang on their own chain, as a necklace or a pendant set, and 27 are the heart pendant on its own, with no length menu, so plan a chain for those. Nearly every heart bought in the year came on its chain: 73 of the 75.

For a heart on its own, match the chain to its grams and its gold. Where a set here prints its chain width, hearts of 1.7 to 2.5 grams hang on 0.8 to 1 mm, the 4 gram silver photo heart on 1.8 mm, and the 9.5 gram citrine heart on 2.3 mm. The heart locket weighs 31.60 grams, and its listing asks for a chain strong enough to carry it. Size one with which chain holds a pendant, then shop women's gold chains.

Ten listings offer a menu of 18, 20, 22 and 24 inches. Nine more hang at 18, four at 16 and the heart lariat at 17, while 19 give no length at all; ask the desk which one comes.

  • 16 inches: the heart sits close, at the base of the neck.
  • 18 inches: it rests on the collarbone; 19 of the 24 listings that print a length offer it.
  • 20 inches: it drops just below, clear of a crew neck.

Lab or natural: lab-grown or natural diamond heart necklace

Every heart listed with diamonds says which, 43 in all: natural on 36 and lab-grown on 7. Each prints its diamond weight too, and the middle one is 0.80 ct. The seven grown pieces run from a 0.07 ct starburst heart to a 22.65 ct heart cascade lariat. Grown and mined diamonds are one material, a carbon crystal of the same hardness, and a lab instrument, not the eye, tells which is which; the checks are in lab-grown or natural diamonds.

A colored stone gets no origin row on the listing. One ruby heart key says synthetic in its title, which means lab-made; for any other stone, ask the desk.

Gold or silver: gold heart necklace in 14K, 18K or 10K, or sterling silver

Choose 14K for a heart worn every day. It is 59 of the 70 here, and it is hard enough to keep a bail and its prongs tight. 18K is the richer yellow and the softer gold; only 6 hearts here are 18K, yet they made up a third of the pieces bought, the baguette heart among them. Three are 10K. Two are sterling silver: the triple heart arrow set and a photo heart on its 18-inch chain. No title here calls a heart plated or filled.

Eight hearts here hold a photo. In the locket, the picture goes inside the heart. The spinning heart turns it in a frame set with lab-grown diamonds, and two hearts ring it with a halo of diamonds, at 20 and 25 mm. The other four set it in a heart of 14K gold or, once, sterling silver on an 18-inch chain. Seven of the eight are the pendant alone.
