The shape: pear shaped diamonds and which way the point goes

A pear is a teardrop, round at one end and tapered to a point at the other, worn with the point toward her fingertip. At 1 carat it measures about 8.5 by 5.5 mm, and a round of that weight about 6.5 mm across, so the pear looks bigger. The tip is its thinnest edge and chips first, so it belongs under a prong, and every ring here is prong or claw set. A faint bow tie, a darker band across the middle, is normal.

The Mirabella: the pear engagement ring in six center sizes

Four in five pear rings sold here in the year were the Mirabella, a lab-grown pear of 1, 1.50, 2, 2.50, 3 or 4 carats on prongs over a band of small round diamonds. Up to 3 carats the pear is E color and VVS2 with an IGI report, in yellow or white gold; the 4 carat adds rose. The Mirabella ring collection shows them side by side. Carat and grades: how big a pear diamond to choose

Start at 2 carats. Nearly three in four rings sold here in the year held a pear that size or larger, and the 2.50 carat sold most. A 2 carat pear faces up about 11 by 7 mm, a 3 carat about 12.5 by 8. The carat in the title is the pear alone; the side diamonds are listed apart. Most pears here are E or F color and VVS clarity, which counts on a pear, since a tint gathers at the point. All but one ring sold was lab-grown, a real diamond just like a mined one.

Other settings: toi et moi, three stone and halo pear rings

Two toi et moi rings set a pear beside an emerald cut. The Trinity flanks a 2 carat pear with two small pears. The Frost holds a 1.06 carat pear in 18K, and the halo rings a 1.58 carat pear with natural diamonds, also in 18K.
