Pick the piece first, then settle the chain. A set comes with its chain matched to the bail, so take a set if you have no chain at home. A pendant sold alone needs a chain strong enough to carry it, and the grams decide that. From 30 grams up, hang it on a solid chain. Nearly everything here is .925 sterling and a few pieces are gold, so read the metal on each listing.
Kinds: Jesus pieces, crucifixes, animals, guns and skulls in silver
Jesus pieces and crucifixes lead, about four in ten of the silver pendants sold here in the year. For crosses only, open our silver cross pendants. The animals come next, nearly one piece in five, led by the tiger's eye and opal eagle claws, then guns and military pieces, about one in six. This page also carries characters, stone-set crosses, skulls, Medusa heads, saints and logos, but no initials or names in silver. A Jesus piece is a piece of faith before it is jewelry, so choose one you will wear with meaning. Two Trax logo titles begin SOLD OUT, so count them as gone.
Pendant or set: does a silver pendant come with a chain
A set does, and a pendant listed alone is the pendant by itself. About a third of the pieces here are sets, and half of what sold was a set. A set's title says Set or Chain, and most sets carry a Chain Length menu. A title that says only Pendant, with no length menu, is sold as the pendant alone. Where the two signs disagree, ask the desk before you pay. With no chain at home, take a set.
Weight and size: how heavy and how big a men's silver pendant is
The middle piece here weighs 28 grams. A stone cross or a gun sold alone runs light, while Jesus pieces and characters run heavier. Nearly a quarter of the pieces here weigh 60 grams or more. The biggest, a cathedral, reaches 413 grams. The everyday pendant is about 34 mm wide. It stands just over two inches tall. A piece three inches wide is made for over the shirt. On some sets the size numbers describe the chain, so check them against the photo.
The chain: which chain holds a silver pendant, by its grams
Let the grams pick the chain. Under 10 grams, a thin 2 mm chain does the job. Near the middle weight, take a 3 mm Franco, rope or Cuban. From 30 grams, go solid. Past 100 grams, take 5 mm or wider. The listings never give a bail's opening, so send the desk the width of your chain before buying a pendant alone. On a set, 24 inches was the length bought most. The men's silver chains guide lists what each silver chain weighs.
Metal, stones and finish: sterling silver, diamonds, oxidized and matte
Nearly every piece here is .925 sterling, and seven are gold. Tick .925 Silver in the Metal Purity filter to see the silver alone. Most silver pendants sold carried no stone. About two pieces in five have diamonds, and a listing that says diamond carries real diamond. Nearly every one names where the diamonds were grown or mined, natural on most. The colored stones are the ones each listing names, sapphire most often. Where oxidized or black was offered beside bright, the darker finish sold two to one and more. Gold-plated silver is not gold, and plating wears with time.
