Choose solid or hollow first, then the width, the length and the karat
Decide solid or hollow before anything else. A hollow rope gives you the look for less gold, and it can kink if it catches. Solid is the rope you wear for years or hang a pendant on. Then pick the width by the job it does, thin for every day and wide when the rope is the whole piece. Take 20 inches on a thin rope. Take 14K for the richer yellow.

Are these rope chains real gold?
Yes, every rope is gold except the six in .925 sterling silver, and each title names its metal. Hollow means a tube of gold, never a coating. No listing here, hollow or solid, says plated.
Solid or hollow rope chain: which should I buy?
Buy solid to carry a pendant or to wear for years, and hollow for a light rope with less gold in it. At one width a solid rope weighs about three times a hollow one. Hollow can kink if it catches.
How thick should a men's rope chain be?
Take 2 to 3 mm for every day or a light pendant, go wider to wear it alone, and past 5 mm the rope becomes the piece. The 2 mm rope sold most here, a third of all ropes.

How heavy is a gold rope chain?
It goes by the width and the build. A hollow 2 mm rope lists under 3 grams, and a solid 14K rope at 5 mm lists 43. Most listings print one weight beside several lengths, so ask which length it covers.
