How much is a Rolex Submariner? Every reference in our case, with today's price
Each pre-owned Submariner carries its own price, and the table below reads every one in our case as the page loads, cheapest first. What moves one against another: the reference, the metal (steel, two-tone steel and gold, or 18K gold), the year, and whether the card, papers or box come with it. The current Submariner is 41 mm; before 2020 it was 40.

The references, decoded
The reference is the model number on the listing; on older pieces it is also engraved between the lugs. The letters after it name the bezel: on the Submariner, LV is green and LB is blue.
| Reference | Case | Metal | Bezel and dial | Trade name |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 126610LN | 41 mm | Oystersteel | Black | — |
| 126610LV | 41 mm | Oystersteel | Green bezel, black dial | Starbucks |

| 116610LN | 40 mm | Oystersteel | Black | — |
| 116610LV | 40 mm | Oystersteel | Green bezel, green dial | Hulk |
| 116613LN | 40 mm | Two-tone yellow gold | Black | — |

| 16610 | 40 mm | Stainless steel | Black | — |
Sizes and metals as our listings print them; trade names as our Rolex nicknames guide gives them.
Two more names you will hear: the older 16610LV, a green bezel on a black dial, is the Kermit, and the 18K white gold 116619LB, blue on blue, is the Smurf.
What moves one Submariner's price against another
We type no price into this guide; each listing carries its own, and the table above reads them live. Here is what, in the trade, moves the price of one pre-owned Rolex against another, and where each factor shows on our listings.
| What moves the price | Where it shows on our listings |
|---|---|
| Model and reference | In the title or the description. |
| Metal | In the title on nearly every listing: steel, two-tone steel and gold, or solid 18K gold. |
| Year | In the title or the description, when the listing states it. |
| Card or papers | "Card Included", "Papers Included", or "No Card / Papers" in the description. |
| The box | Usually "Box Available as an Add On"; a few listings include the box. |
| Factory or aftermarket parts | Said in the listing when a part is aftermarket or custom. |
| Condition and the market | In the photos; ask the watch desk for a closer look. |

Check it before you pay
- The bezel turns one way, in 120 clicks.
- The date lens magnifies the date two and a half times, and the number fills it.
- ROLEX is engraved around the inner ring between the dial and the crystal, with the serial at 6 o'clock, on most models since the late 2000s.
- A modern seconds hand moves in eight small steps a second, almost smooth.
- The movement needs a watchmaker: a current Submariner Date carries the Rolex caliber 3235, and the case has to be opened to see it.
No single check proves a Rolex real. Every check, and what a video can and cannot show, is in how to tell if a Rolex is real.
Which Submariner
Choose the metal and the size first. The Submariner is the classic dive watch; 41 mm is the current case and 40 the older one, and on a wrist 40 to 42 mm is today's men's size. Watches are final sale, so settle the size before you pay: ask the desk for a video of the watch on a wrist, or try both sizes at the showroom.
