How much is a Rolex Datejust? The 36s and 41s in our case, with today's price

From the store at TraxNYC, 47th Street · By TraxNYC
The short answer

Each pre-owned Datejust carries its own price, and the tables below read every one in our case as the page loads, cheapest first, the 41 mm and the 36 mm apart. What moves one against another: the size, the reference, the metal (steel, two-tone steel and gold, or 18K gold), the dial, the year, and whether the card, papers or box come with it. The Datejust is the Rolex for one watch that does everything, and more than half of the Rolex watches we list are Datejusts (read September 28, 2026).

24 in our case as this page loads. Each price is the listing's own. Watches are final sale under our refund policy, so ask for a video before you pay.

Smaller Datejusts, the 31, the 28 and the ladies' 26, are on our women's Rolex page.

36 or 41

A 36 reads classic, and smaller than the number sounds; 40 to 42 mm is today's men's size. On our Datejust listings the 41 leads, then the 36. Watches are final sale under our refund policy, so choose the size before you pay: ask the desk for a video of the watch on a wrist, or try two sizes at the showroom.

The references, decoded

The reference is the model number on the listing; on older pieces it is also engraved between the lugs. Two-tone is what Rolex calls Rolesor: Oystersteel and gold together.

The Wimbledon is a slate dial with green Roman numerals. Our nicknames guide lists it on the references 126300, 126331, 126333, 126334 and 116333, and the live tables above name it wherever a listing's dial says so. Every trade name is in our Rolex nicknames guide.

Oyster or Jubilee

The Oyster has three broad, flat links: the sport bracelet. The Jubilee has five smaller links, dressier and more supple, made for the Datejust; about four in five of our Datejusts are on one.

What moves one Datejust's price against another

We type no price into this guide; each listing carries its own, and the tables above read them live. Here is what, in the trade, moves the price of one pre-owned Rolex against another, and where each factor shows on our listings.

What moves the priceWhere it shows on our listings
Model and referenceIn the title or the description.
MetalIn the title on nearly every listing: steel, two-tone steel and gold, or solid 18K gold.
YearIn the title or the description, when the listing states it.
Card or papers"Card Included", "Papers Included", or "No Card / Papers" in the description.
The boxUsually "Box Available as an Add On"; a few listings include the box.
Factory or aftermarket partsSaid in the listing when a part is aftermarket or custom, such as a dial set with diamonds after the watch left Rolex.
Condition and the marketIn the photos; ask the watch desk for a closer look.

Check it before you pay

  • A fluted Datejust bezel does not turn.
  • The date lens magnifies the date two and a half times, and the number fills it.
  • ROLEX is engraved around the inner ring between the dial and the crystal, with the serial at 6 o'clock, on most models since the late 2000s.
  • A modern seconds hand moves in eight small steps a second, almost smooth.
  • The movement needs a watchmaker: a current Datejust carries the Rolex caliber 3235, and the case has to be opened to see it.

No single check proves a Rolex real. Every check is in how to tell if a Rolex is real.

Questions

How much is a Rolex Datejust?

Each listing carries its own price. The tables at the top of this page read every Datejust in our case as the page loads, cheapest first, the 41 and the 36 apart. The size, the reference, the metal, the dial, the year and what comes with the watch move it.

Should I buy the 36 or the 41?

A 36 reads classic, and smaller than the number sounds; 40 to 42 mm is today's men's size. On our listings the 41 leads, then the 36. Ask the desk for a video on a wrist, or try both at the showroom.

What is the Wimbledon dial?

A slate dial with green Roman numerals. Our nicknames guide lists it on the references 126300, 126331, 126333, 126334 and 116333; the tables above mark every listing whose dial is a Wimbledon.

What does two-tone mean on a Rolex?

Oystersteel and gold together, which Rolex calls Rolesor.

Does it come with papers?

Each listing says so: "Card Included", "Papers Included", or "No Card / Papers". The box is usually offered as an add-on.

Can I return a Datejust?

No. Watches are final sale under our refund policy. Ask the watch desk for a video before you pay, or see the watch at the store on 47th Street.
