A wheat chain is four strands of twisted oval links braided into one, so it looks like a stalk of wheat: smooth, round and bright. Most here are 14K yellow gold, from a 0.6 mm thread to 3.5 mm, in 16 to 24 inches; a 1.2 mm at 18 inches weighs about 3 grams, a 3.5 mm at 20 inches about 25. The 21K pieces are square wheat, at 1.5 and 2 mm.

Choose the wheat by what it has to carry. A fine round wheat holds a cross or a small charm, and its tight braid is slow to kink. For a chain that stands out on its own, step up to the solid 3.5 mm. Read the grams before the millimeters, because the grams are the gold. The square wheat is 21K, a deeper yellow and a softer metal, so give it a light piece.

What does a gold wheat chain weigh?
At 20 inches the 1 mm round wheat weighs 2.3 grams, the 2.1 mm 8.8, and the solid 3.5 mm about 24.5. Longer weighs more. Where several lengths share a listing, ask the live chat for the grams at yours.
Can I get a wheat chain longer, or with a different clasp?
Yes. The desk lengthens or shortens a wheat chain and can swap the clasp, and a shorter chain holds less gold. Ask in the live chat before you order. Once it is cut or extended for you, the chain is final sale.

Is a wheat chain solid or hollow?
