Red sapphire alternating with natural diamond in near-equal weight — 0.84 carats of color against 0.86 of white, 10mm across the flower head in 14K gold.
That even split is what gives the candy cane read: neither stone dominates, so the eye picks up the alternation rather than a center and a surround. It is a harder balance to hold than a color center with a white halo, because two stones of similar size sitting next to each other expose any mismatch in how they are seated.
