Decide one ear or two first, then ask if the black grew in the stone or came from a treatment, because the listings rarely say. A dark stud shows a hard shine, not sparkle, so a single looks finished on its own. Take 14K yellow gold, the color buyers chose most here. Read the width before the carat, and if a listing gives neither, ask the live chat.
The stone: are black diamonds real, natural or treated
A black diamond is a real diamond, carbon like a white one, turned black by dense dark inclusions or by a treatment. It is opaque, so light stops at the surface and what shows is a gunmetal shine off the polished facets.
Most black diamonds in jewelry are natural stones darkened by heat or irradiation. An untreated black is rarer and dearer. Every pair reads natural on its origin line, a word that leaves open whether the black came from treatment, so ask the desk which kind a pair carries. AAA on a listing is a dealer's tier for even color and good polish, not a lab grade.
Styles: black diamond studs, single studs, cluster and four-row
Start with a stud. About half the pieces here are studs. Round stones in prongs are the usual build for a black diamond, since an included stone can chip at an edge. A cluster gathers small black stones into one face and reads wider than one stone.
One dark stud is a whole look. Three pieces are sold as a single, the skull among them. The grams and carat on a single cover that one earring. For one earring from a pair, ask the desk, or see men's single earrings.
Carat and size: how big a black diamond stud looks, in carats and mm
Shop by the millimeter. A black stone shows only its outline, so it can read a touch smaller than a white stone of the same carat. Only six listings give a width, in the details or a size menu. Every listing prints a diamond weight in its details, two in three give a carat in the description too, and nearly all skip whether it is the pair or one ear, so read it as the total for what the listing sells. The table below sorts all 29 by that weight, pairs and singles apart. The round-stud ladder from carat to width is in the men's earrings guide. If a listing gives neither, get the width from the live chat, or text the desk from 10 AM ET.
Metal: 14K yellow or white gold, and black gold earrings
Take 14K. All but two pieces here are 14K, and each comes in yellow, white or rose. Buyers took yellow most, then white, and nobody chose rose. Every listing prints its weight, and the middle piece weighs 2.60 grams as listed.
Black gold is named on six listings, yet no color menu sells it. It is gold under a black coat of rhodium or ruthenium that wears thin and gets redone at a bench. Before ordering a pair pictured in black, ask the desk whether that finish is offered.
Buying: the back, the timing, and returns
Ask which back a pair has before you pay, because no listing names one. For the timing on yours, ask the desk on the live chat; from 10 AM ET a person also reads texts at 212-872-9692. A piece in stock ships tracked, usually within two to five business days. A piece unworn and unaltered can come back within fourteen calendar days of delivery, after the desk approves it, riding our return label. We hold back five percent to restock it, and the return postage too. A piece made or changed to your order is final (refund policy).
