Which size?

1. Set the screen with a card

Description

A 3.00 carat oval, lab-grown, alone on an 18K gold band. One diamond in F color and VVS clarity, held up in prongs that leave it open to the light. An oval's long outline runs along the finger and makes the hand look longer, and at 3.00 carats the shape has room to show.

The details. The ring is 18K gold, which is 75 percent pure gold, and it is offered in yellow, white or rose. The center diamond is a lab-grown oval of 3.00 carats. Its F color sits near the top of the color scale, and VVS clarity means any inclusions are very small and seen only under magnification. It is a prong setting, and the whole ring weighs 3.40 grams.

Size and fit. Ring sizes 4 through 9 are offered, half sizes included. If the ring is a surprise, a ring the wearer already has for the same finger is the surest guide to the size.

Care. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush worked under the stone keep it bright; keep the ring away from chlorine and harsh cleaners, and store it apart from other pieces so the diamond does not scratch them. Lab-grown diamonds take the same care as natural ones, and it is worth checking now and then that the prongs still hold tight.
