Questions we get at the counter
What chain should I wear with a pendant?
Wear a link that hangs flat under weight, like a Franco, rope, box, wheat or Cuban. Match its width to the bail and its build to the grams, and past 30 grams go solid. The gold chains guide covers widths and lengths.
How big should a men's pendant be?
Between 30 and 40 mm wide is the everyday men's size, about an inch and a quarter. Under 20 mm reads small and quiet. From 50 mm up, it is a piece for over the shirt. Each listing gives the width and length.
How much should a men's gold pendant cost?
The gold first: grams at the karat and the day's gold price; a 14K cross here is about 9 grams and a Jesus piece about 33, so the same style in two sizes can be several times apart. Then the stones, by size and count, natural or lab-grown. Then the bench work, which on a sculpted piece is real hours. A set adds the chain's grams. The grams are on nearly every listing: compare by grams before tickets, and ask a jeweler for the number on the day you are buying, 212-872-9692 or the live chat.
What does a men's gold pendant weigh?
The typical 14K pendant sold alone here weighs about 24 grams, and the middle half runs 11 to 48. A cross is light at about 9 grams. A Jesus piece runs near 33 and an animal near 44. Nearly every listing prints the grams.
Will the bail on a pendant fit my chain?
It fits when the bail opens wider than your link, and wide enough for the clasp unless it hinges. Our bails adjust to take even a heavy Cuban. Send your chain's width on live chat before you order.
Jesus piece or cross, and what is the difference?
A Jesus piece is the head of Christ, most often in the crown of thorns. A crucifix is a cross with the figure of Christ, and a plain cross carries none. A cross is far lighter, so a Jesus piece wants the stronger chain.
Should I buy a pendant set or the pendant alone?
Buy the set when no chain you own clears the bail or carries the weight. About two in five pendants men bought here came as a set, in 18 to 24 inches. Ask the desk whether the listed grams count the chain.
Gold or silver pendant?
Take 14K for a piece you will wear every day for years, and silver for the same look at a fraction of the gold. Silver outsells gold here by the piece. It darkens with wear, and a polishing cloth brings it back.
Can I get a pendant custom made?
Yes. Bring a sketch, a photo or a name, and we make it at our own bench on 47th Street. A custom piece cannot be returned, so settle lead time and engraving with the desk first, at 212-872-9692.
